April 23, 2007 - 1:57 a.m. Oh darn. We really didn't play at all well enough to get past Detroit this time. I don't mean tonight specifically; we had some good chances. But getting outshot 255–129 for the series? That's tough to overcome, even with a wizard of a netminder. Nice of CBC to play us the game from 86 when Steve Smith scored on himself. My word, those were some extraordinary teams: Coffey, Fuhr, Gretzky, Huddy, Kurri, Lowe, MacTavish and Messier for the North side; Loob, Hunter, MacInnis, McDonald, Nieuwendyk, Otto, Peplinski and Vernon for the good side. Sorry, enough with the nostalgia. Don't fire Playfair. Five game seems fair, but the fines kinda hurt. Give Kiprusoff a permanent first star and just pails of money and really any accolade you can find to pile on. And then I guess, go Canucks? And, fine, yes, Sens too. Any Canadian team over anyone else, of course, of course. Just know that if it had ever come down to a Calgary–Ottawa final, we would have murdered you dead five times. And so we grieve. |
